Emergency Medicine

For many patients arriving at Södersjukhuset, the accident and emergency department (ECU) marks their first port of call. Northern Europe’s largest emergency department for adult patients suffering from acute illnesses and injuries, it offers professional round-the-clock medical care. On some days, the ECU can handle more than 300 patients. A third of these are admitted as inpatients to one of the hospital’s wards. Some 50 high-priority ambulance cases arrive daily, with acutely ill or seriously injured patients.

As well as the Emergency Room (ER), Department of Emergancy Care includes the Emergency Care Unit (ECU). The hospital’s physiotherapists and occupational therapists also form part of this administrative area.
